Coffee Corner, Book Reviews by Renee Field

I am a coffee-aholic. With that in mind, I always tend to curl up with a book and a good coffee in hand. So welcome to my coffee corner. Below is a sample of my recommended reads and of course my coffee of choice.

Hot Chocolate
Gideon by Jacquelyn Frank is an all-encompassing read and book two in her Nightwalker series. Gideon, the healer and oldest surviving male of the demon-race finally gives into his soul-wrenching love for Magdelegna, the Demon King’s sister.

But it’s not an easy love. It’s a love brokered in its infancy in lust, passion and mistrust. Magdelegna, a powerful empathy demon has lived her entire life giving comfort and peace to others of her race.

Now, faced with the unknown and dangerous perils of falling in love with the almighty Gideon she must overcome her own fears of inadequacy and let the bloom of passion blossom until it breaks free, sizzling her demon-heart. It’s not an easy choice but their trials are gut wrenching in their intensity.

What I love about Frank’s second novel is that once again the reader is pulled into the story through her lyrical writing, which is at times is poetic prose. It’s refreshing, captivating and elegant. I did find book two was a little deep with back story, but the pace certainly picked up enough to allow me to finish the book within two days. This is a must read! Alien Overnight by Robin L. Rotham is a no-holds barred, make no apology alien tale that will have you twittering in one instance and squirming with desire the next.

When Dr. Monica Gothchild, wannabe alien lover, who just so happens to be androgynous in appearance watches the Garathani males have sex with volunteer Earth women, she gets her first whiff of male pheromones and thus the change begins – big time. Dr. Gothchild, one of the key scientists involved in trying to save the Garathani race through procreation with Earth females, ends up undergoing a complete physical change almost overnight. When she discovers that Commander Kellen has claimed mating rights with her she’s not one bit happy.

The premise behind the book is that Kellen is a Garathani soldier, who is trying to ease the sexual tension of his men and agrees to the Terran scheme that will allow his men to appease their sexual frustration with volunteer Terran women. When the unexpected happens and he discovers a half-breed Terran-Garathani female he claims her. But claiming her is just the first part. He must get her to accept mating with another male of his choice, because that’s how things work now on his home planet. Once his planet was ruled matriarchally and Garathani women used sex as a means to torture Garathani males. Turns out a Garathani male can only find release, thanks to their extra special appendage, with a female.

What I loved was the developing relationship between two hard ass characters. When Kellen claims Gothchild the sex is mind-blowing but key to the overall story and it will have you crossing your ankles, and wishing another Garathani male could whisk you away. The science-fiction, futuristic aspects of this story were great.

A white-hot read! Check out Robin’s books at www.robinlrotham.com.

Cathryn Fox’s Pleasure Control is a wickedly, delightful mastery of science and lust combined to make a perfect erotic read. Fox’s characters, Laura and Jay not only steam things up in the lab but in the bathroom, living room and I know if they could they’d be testing that pleasure control serum in many more places. Fox’s lustful wordplay is mastery, especially for all those salivating sex scenes that make the reader squirm with desire.

The best thing about Pleasure Control is that Pleasure Prolonged is also available and things just get better and better.

Café Latté with Cinnamon

Pleasure Prolonged provides the reader with a in-depth look at Erin, who readers meet in Fox’s first book. Naughty and nice take on an entirely unique relationship when Erin and co-lab partner, Kale, must work together to ensure the new pleasure prolonged serum is up to its full potential. And up it certainly is! Kale is brilliant with his ambitious, yet caring attitude. His attention to detail comes in handy when he’s dealing with Erin’s body and mind that likes to play naughty but playing and doing are two different things. Thankfully, Erin discovers the joy of the game.

Can’t wait for Fox’s third novel, Pleasure Exchange. Visit www.cathrynfox.com for more of Cathryn Fox’s novels.

Julianne MacLean’s Surrender to a Scoundrel is a gripping page turner. The independent, ever respectable Mrs. Evelyn Wheaton meets her match when it comes to life and the adventures of love in the form of hunky Lord Martin who without raising a hand causes Evelyn to undertake a complete makeover both in appearance and attitude. Gone is dull mousy Evelyn and the reader uncovers a rebellious, vivacious spirit who lights a fire that even consumes Lord Martin. Once again MacLean’s writing and attention to detail sweep the reader from the sofa into a world of romance, where every heart’s dalliance comes true.
